Beer And Wine For The Perishing
It is not for kings, Lemuel—
it is not for kings to drink wine,
not for rulers to crave beer,
lest they drink and forget what has been decreed,
and deprive all the oppressed of their rights.
Let beer be for those who are perishing,
wine for those who are in anguish!
Let them drink and forget their poverty
and remember their misery no more.
The king should avoid beer or wine
because he may do wrong under the influence.
Besides, they are for the perishing.
Seems to advise leaders to be tea-totalers.
However, this is not the case in the New Testament
where alcoholic beverages are specifically approved,
with warnings to avoid over-imbibing.
To Your Health!
Only My Daily Bread
Two things I ask of you, Lord;
do not refuse me before I die:
Keep falsehood and lies far from me;
give me neither poverty nor riches,
but give me only my daily bread.
Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you
and say, “Who is the Lord?”
Or I may become poor and steal,
and so dishonor the name of my God.
Just meet my needs for the day, Lord.
Evil could result from having
either too much or too little.
Who dares to offer this prayer?
Those who flatter their neighbors
are spreading nets for their feet.
Beware of the flattering neighbor.
He is setting a trap for you.
Evildoers And Righteousness
Evildoers do not understand what is right,
but those who seek the Lord understand it fully.
Unlike the Seekers of the Lord,
Evildoers do not understand righteousness.
This becomes more evident daily in the USA.
Friendly Wounds, Enemy Kisses
Wounds from a friend can be trusted,
but an enemy multiplies kisses.
Negative feedback does not sting so badly when it is from a friend.
Watch out for that pat on the back from your enemy though,
he may have a knife in his hand.
